Understanding Little League Elbow
Little League Elbow, also known as medial epicondyle apophysitis, is a common overuse injury prevalent among young baseball players, particularly pitchers. It occurs due to repetitive throwing motions, leading to stress and inflammation of the growth plate on the inner side of the elbow. Without proper intervention, it can hinder performance and lead to long-term complications. Symptoms can include:
Pain: Persistent pain on the inner side of the elbow, especially during throwing motions.
Swelling: Visible swelling or tenderness around the elbow joint.
Limited Range of Motion: Difficulty extending or flexing the elbow fully.
Weakness: Decreased strength and coordination in the affected arm.
Instability: Feeling of instability or looseness in the elbow joint.
Our Services
-
Our experienced therapists conduct a thorough assessment to understand the extent of the injury, identify contributing factors, and devise a customized treatment strategy.
-
Through targeted exercises and stretches, we aim to improve strength, flexibility, and range of motion in the elbow joint and surrounding musculature, facilitating optimal healing and performance.
-
Our experts analyze the player's throwing mechanics to identify any biomechanical flaws contributing to the injury. We then implement corrective strategies and provide guidance on proper throwing techniques to prevent recurrence.
-
We develop a structured rehabilitation program that gradually reintroduces throwing activities while monitoring progress closely. This phased approach ensures a safe and sustainable return to sports participation without risking reinjury.
